ALL MUNICIPAL OFFICES, CENTERS, AND GARAGE TO BE CLOSED
OCTOBER 3-6, 2023
The township is paving Municipal Drive, the recycling center area and around the municipal building in early October. The area will be closed for the safety of the workers and anyone else using the area and to let the paving material set. This will include recycling center, compost site, garage, municipal building and the recreation park including the disc golf course. The exact date will be announced as soon as the contractor confirms with the township. Please check back for updates. These improvements are necessary and we thank you for your patience and cooperation.
RECYCLING CENTER & COMPOST SITE – FOR MONROE TOWNSHIP RESIDENTS ONLY
The Hours for the Compost Site are
Monday, Wednesday, Friday 7am to 2pm and the third Saturday of the month from 8-11am.
The Recycling Center is currently open for Monroe Township residents only. The hours are Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Please note: The centers may be closed when there is inclement weather.
The next recycling event will be held Saturday, October 23rd from 8-11 a.m. Once the containers are full that container will be closed until the container is emptied on a schedule determined by Lycoming County Waste Management. Any questions please call 570-743-7057.
If a container is full please do not leave your recyclables. It is considered illegal dumping and our employees get stuck cleaning it up. Thank you for your consideration.
The Monroe Township Recycling Drop off Center, located off Park Road next to the municipal building, accepts newspaper, office paper, chip board, steel cans, magazines/catalogs/glossy inserts, corrugated cardboard, aluminum cans; brown, green and clear glass bottles & jars only, no ceramics or window glass, and #1 & #2 plastics only (this would be laundry detergent bottles and plastic bottles only; NOT rigid plastic, PVC pipes, cups or clam shell food containers, pails, buckets, kitty litter pails, toys, garbage cans, plastic bags.) The number can be found on the bottom of the bottle and it will say #1 or #2 with the recycling symbol around it. Please be considerate of the rules as there is an actual person sorting these items when they are taken to the recycling center. Note: One wrong/dirty item in the container can contaminate the entire load.
We are noticing cat food cans, among other items, are not being rinsed out. Please be considerate of the township workers and rinse out cans as they smell in the summer and are unable to be recycled.
The third Saturday of every month the Recycling Drop off Center is open from 8 am to 11 am.
Monday through Friday when the road crew is on duty and the gates are unlocked, you may drop off your recyclables. The dumpsters are clearly labeled. Please remember to close the doors on the dumpsters when you are finished.
Two times every year Monroe Township hosts Clean Up Days on a Friday and Saturday from 7am to 7pm for Monroe Township residents only. This is when you can bring your old appliances, clothing, books and other items that have passed their useful life for disposal. There is no cost to township residents for this service. Staff will be on duty to assist you. Monroe Township no longer accepts electronics during Clean Up Days. We have had non residents bringing their junk so we will once again check ID’s and newsletters. Be sure to bring them with. The scheduled dates for 2023 are:
