Hummels Wharf Municipal Authority is a sewer authority that provides sewer only service to properties located in a portion of Monroe Township.  Mainly the Hummels Wharf and adjoining areas.

The Hummels Wharf Municipal Authority Board meets the third Thursday of each month in the Monroe Township Municipal Building located at 39 Municipal Drive, Selinsgrove beginning at 7:00 P.M.  The public is invited to attend these meetings.

Sewer bills are sent on a quarterly basis using the following schedule:

January 2 prior 4th quarter service (October, November, December)

April 1 prior 1st quarter service (January, February, March)
July 1 prior 2nd quarter service (April, May, June)

October 1 prior 3rd quarter service (July, August, September)

Billing, Penalty & Interest- Sewer bills are due and payable when billed.  After a 30-day period if the bill has not been paid a 10% late penalty will be added to your current billed amount.  When sewer bills become 60-days delinquent a 6% annual interest rate will begin to be applied to your account each month.  The current quarterly cost per EDU is $125.00.

Sewer Payments –Sewer bill payments are accepted in the HWMA office during regular office hours, by mail or at the Northumberland National Bank located on Lori Lane (The bank located behind Lowe’s) Additionally, sewer payments may be made by check or money order (no cash please) in the lock box, inside the Monroe Township municipal building next to the HWMA window during regular Monroe Township Office hours which are Monday thru Friday from 8:30 to 4:30.

Post Dated Checks – We ask that you please do not send our office post dated checks as we will not be responsible for holding these checks.  

NSF Fee – There will be a $50.00 fee for all checks that are returned to HWMA for insufficient funds.

New Construction Sewer Permit – It is necessary to obtain a “Sewer Permit” for all new construction within the HWMA service area.  The current cost is $2,200.00 per EDU plus $110.00 inspection fee.

Existing Laterals – Sewer Lateral Repair/Replacement Permit – If it becomes necessary to repair or replace an existing sewer lateral a “Sewer Lateral Repair/Replacement Permit” and an inspection of the repair/replacement by our inspector is required.  The cost of this permit is $50.00.  If the work is not satisfactory and doesn’t’ pass inspection the first time and it will be necessary for additional inspections at a cost of $35.00 for each additional inspection will be charged.

Sewer Inspections – A 72 hour notice is required by HWMA for sewer inspections.

SUMP PUMPS AND DOWN SPOUTS – Section 3.061 of the Hummels Wharf Municipal Authority Rules and Regulations prohibits any person from discharging storm water, surface water, ground water, roof runoff or subsurface drainage including cellar drainage into the sewer system.  We ask our customers to comply with this section by removing any sump pumps, downspouts or other items/things that may discharge the above cited items into the sanitary sewer system.
